4 FLORIDA GYMNASTICS 2018 MEDIA SUPPLEMENT MEDIA COVERAGE From the tip of the Panhandle and down through Miami, the University of Florida athletic program attracts statewide interest from newspapers, magazines, television, websites and radio stations. UF holds its fair share of the national spotlight too, as media outlets such as ESPN, USA Today and Sports Illustrated track the progress of not only the nationally ranked football team, but also the careers of the many Gator world-class athletes. Locally, more than dozen media outlets regularly cover the Gators. In addition to daily coverage from the local media, many of the state’s larger papers such as the Orlando Sentinel, Palm Beach Post, Miami Herald, Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, Florida Times Union and the Tampa Bay Times cover the Gator teams. The UF Communications Department also helps student-athletes’ hometown media follow the careers of Gators from their area. ESPN AND THE SEC: BRING CONFERENCE ACTION TO THE NATION The SEC Network brings 24/7 coverage of Southeastern Conference sports on the new cable channel which started in August of 2014. The SEC-ESPN contract is set to run for 20 seasons, giving the conference unprecedented national exposure. The SEC Network the source for 18 live events. Five of Florida’s SEC Network regular-season appearances are live. Two meets – Jan. 26 versus Oklahoma and Feb. 23 versus Arkansas are tape-delayed. In addition, the March 24 SEC Championship meet airs live, with Session I on the SEC Network and Session II on ESPN2. JEFF CARDOZO MEGAN PARLER The SEC Network camera focuses on Alicia Boren as she prepares to perform on the uneven bars in the 2017 dual with Kentucky. In 2018, the Gators will make five live appearances on the SEC Network. The SEC Network camera focuses on the Gators as Rachel Slocum heads down the Southeastern Conference Championships’ vault runway. 2018 SEC Championships’ Session I airs live on the SEC Network and Session II airs live on ESPN2. The SEC Network interviews Amelia Hundley prior to the start of the 2018 season. Prior to each season, the SEC Network visits the campus of each SEC gymnastics school to shoot video and images to use throughout the season in their broadcasts.
